Should I Pay a Timeshare Resale Company to Sell my Timeshare?

Timeshare companies use high-pressure sales tactics and basically hold customers captive for hours on end to induce them into making a high-cost timeshare purchase. And then, once they have you, they do everything they can to keep you. This can create an understandable sense of desperation in those who have purchased and now—still—feel held captive. So, when along comes an unsolicited phone call from a company promising to get you out of that timeshare contract for just a few thousand dollars, it can feel like you’ve had a knight in shining armor ride up on his white steed to save you.

That’s costume armor, my friends. It’s worn by a cut-throat con-man, who sits astride a spray-painted pony.

The fact is, the timeshare industry has, in its dirty dealings, created a whole other shadow industry. The timeshare lobby works double-time (and with amounts of money most of us couldn’t even dream of possessing in our lifetimes) to make what they do legal. That makes the contracts into which they pressure peoplenominally legal, at least for now. Which means that consumers really are stuck in a Faustian bargain. And it creates the space for this other industry—the timeshare cancellation company industry (not to be confused with actual attorneys, like us at The People’s Advocate, whose professional licenses are on the line!)—that cuts a swath of illegality through the ranks of the owners of timeshares who needed some way out.

These crooks do things like create corporations that promise—for an upfront fee in the thousands of dollars—to cancel or sell your timeshare within a certain amount of time. These dirty s.o.b.’s then take your money and dissolve their company and disappear, without ever doing anything at all to offload the timeshare. In some cases they will send the timeshare a single boilerplate form-letter or something of the kind. Which is to say, if they do take any action, it is the least amount of action possible and certainly isn’t worth the up-front fee they charge you.

What’s interesting is that the timeshare industry itself is doing everything they can to get rid of these other companies. They claim it’s because they don’t want their customers being taken advantage of. But it’s really because they don’t want consumers to be able to end or cancel their contracts in any way. They lump the legitimate and illegitimate methods of timeshare cancellation together and call it all a scourge—when it is the timeshare industry itself that is the real nexus of the evil being done here.

Don’t be fooled by the fakes. If you have recently signed a timeshare contract, Attorney Joe Brien of The People’s Advocate is willing to put his real name, license, and reputation on the line. He will be glad to review that document for you. And The People’s Advocate offers all of the other legitimate exit services to boot. If you have been pressured into a timeshare purchase and need to get out, contact us to schedule a FREE information session. We will fight for you every step of the way.
